Why Healthcare Professionals Value Podcasts and How MMP’s Video Journals Meet the Need

Podcasts have quickly become one of the most popular learning formats for healthcare professionals (HCPs) seeking education and updates. When their time is precious and new data emerges daily, podcasts offer something valuable: digestible, flexible content that fits into busy clinical schedules.

The Growing Role of Podcasts in Medical Education
HCPs are increasingly turning to podcasts as a trusted source of education. A 2019 report found that 75% of HCPS across disciplines use their smartphones to listen to podcasts.1 And this seems to be a growing trend. A report by CREATION.co found that podcast mentions by HCPs more than doubled between 2016 and 2022 on X (formerly Twitter), rising from approximately 12,000 to 25,000 mentions per month.2

Why HCPs Turn to Podcasts
Compared with written formats, podcasts offer distinct advantages to support continued professional learning:

·   Convenience and flexibility: Accessible anytime, whether on the move, between clinics, or during downtime

·   Microlearning and digestible content: Episodes deliver focused learning in manageable segments, allowing listeners to dip in and out

·   Personalised learning: Listeners can select the most interesting and relevant topics to them

·   Credible insights: Expert voices provide trusted perspectives and up-to-date information on clinical advancements

For many, podcasts provide a way of staying connected to the latest science without compromising clinical time.

How the Video Journals Support HCP Learning
We collaborate closely with international experts to deliver a wide range of podcasts across a broad range of therapy areas via our Video Journals ( VJHemOnc , VJOncology , VJNeurology , VJDementia ). Topics range from latest trial findings and congress insights, to guidance on diagnosis and adverse event management. Episodes are available on multiple platforms, ensuring easy access for HCPs worldwide.

This commitment to independent, accessible education has been acknowledged through external recognition of our podcasts. The VJHemOnc podcast has been recognized as one of the top 10 hematology podcasts worldwide by Million Podcasts;3 and the VJOncology podcast was voted third in the 10 Best Oncology Podcasts in the UK for 2025.4

These acknowledgements highlight MMP’s commitment to delivering trusted, high-quality educational content in formats that resonate with HCPs.

You can explore recent episodes from VJHemOnc and VJOncology , along with our other Video Journals, featuring expert insights, meeting highlights, and clinical management recommendations.

One Size Does Not Fit All
At MMP we understand that different HCPs have different learning preferences. Not everyone favors podcasts. A recent Wiley Annual Global HCP Survey found that clinicians with 30 years of experience or more significantly prefer traditional formats such as printed materials and are less likely to choose modern formats including podcasts.5

That’s why our Video Journals continue to provide education in a range of formats, from podcasts and articles to longer-form roundtable discussions, ensuring content remains accessible, relevant, and valuable for all learners.

Why This Matters
As medical education continues to evolve, podcasts have become a staple of continuing education for many HCPs, providing trusted, accessible and personalized learning.

Recognition of both the VJHemOnc and VJOncology podcasts is not just an accolade. It demonstrates the value these resources bring to the hematologist and oncologist communities worldwide.
